My group was planning to do a Jewelry Making Class so to plan for the class, I needed to think about what kind of jewelry that is easy for seniors to make and something that all genders will like, So in our group, we talked about different kinds of jewelry we can make and one suggested they can make rings for the seniors while the others can make bracelets for the seniors. But to plan for the class, we needed to first get the materials needed so we went to Michaels to get the materials. We got beads, memory wire, and pliers. Then we prepared examples we can show the seniors so they have an idea what they should make. After that, we did a practice class where we introduced ourselves, describe what we were doing, and give instructions.
The class went actually well because our group was nervous, minutes before the class started. But we first laid out the beads around the tables so the seniors would have easy access to the variety of beads. Then the seniors came in and we measured their wrist so that the bracelet would fit snugly. After that, we told them that they can make any patterns they like. After a little while, the seniors conversing which we joined while helping around if the seniors needed help with sliding the beads through the wire or helping them get more of the beads they prefer. After they were done, I had to help them close off their bracelets so it fits their wrist. After that, some seniors chose to make more than one bracelet because they thought it was fun and pretty which was surprising because the example we made was stiff and not the best example. It was coming to an end and we had to help clean the table and say goodbye to the seniors.
Also when working with the seniors in Arts in the Park, I had to plan where to get the materials such as glitter tattoos and face painting. So I got the materials from Joann's and tried to make example tattoos on my friends to be prepared for when we meet the seniors meet in the park. When the event started, at first there wasn't as much seniors because there were no signs to label the different art stations. But when we labeled the art stations, more seniors came and decided to join and it was fun working with them because they told me they had fun because they haven't had temporary tattoos in a long time.
What I learned was how seniors were laid back and I shouldn't be as nervous when confronting people because I need to lead the class and people wouldn't know what to do without a leader. I also learned that seniors aren't as grumpy and arrogant as perceived on television or cartoons which was really nice to see!
